Gil Hizi is a PhD candidate in Anthropology at Sydney University. He has an M.A. in East Asian studies and conducted research in urban China since. His first research focused on the social construction of psychological counseling in China, while his current project looks at various workshops for self-improvement in 'soft skills' (communication skills, public speaking, emotional management, etc) and the set of values they unravel. His anthropological fields of interests include contemporary China, phenomenology, affect and globalized ideas of personhood.
